A woman was killed and two others were injured in a crash in Manhattan early Sunday morning.
The crash happened just after 9 a.m. at the intersection of West 58th Street and East 81st Street, according to the New York Police Department.
Witnesses told police the driver of a minivan went out of control and struck a tree.
The minivan then hit a tractor-trailer, then a vehicle with a van parked in front of it, the NYPD said.
The van’s driver was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The woman who was killed was identified as 26-year-old Yael Zemel.
She was a student at New York University, the university said in a statement.
The van driver, 29-year old Yianna Zemels, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Two people were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The New York City Fire Department tweeted that it was responding to a report of a crash involving a minivans at West 58 and East 71st Street.
A witness who witnessed the crash said the driver went off the road, striking the tree and hitting a vehicle parked in the median.
The witness told the FDNY that a male in a minibike appeared to be texting.
The witness said the minivan did not have a hazard light on.
The NYPD tweeted that there were two injuries: a female driver was in critical but stable condition at a local trauma center and a male driver was treated for minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
